Threshold Services has formed a new Integrated Dual Disorders Treatment (IDDT) team for 35 people with substance use disorders as well as mental illness. The team treats both conditions. Joseph Wakhanala, a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor and a Master Addiction Counselor, leads the team. The team also includes a Psychiatrist, a Mental Health Therapist with addictions experience, a Certified Addiction Counselor, four Rehabilitation Counselors, one of whom has nearly completed course work to be a Certified Addiction Counselor, and a Supported Employment Specialist from St. Luke's House. Fifteen of the 35 people live in Threshold Services housing. Others live in housing provided by the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless. Threshold Services' development of agency-wide competency to treat dual disorders is supported by a generous grant from the Healthcare Initiative Foundation.
