Our Programs and the People We Serve
The people we serve
We help more than 900 people, eighteen years of age or older, to recover from mental illness or co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders. Approximately half of the people we serve have co-occurring mental illness and substance use (dual) disorders.
Our programs
- Two Outpatient Mental Health Centers in Rockville, MD and Silver Spring, MD offer psychiatric medical treatment and individual, group and family therapy, with a variety of treatment modalities, including Family Psychoeducation and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, among others.
- The residential rehabilitation program includes two group homes staffed 24/7 and four clusters of apartments and houses. Each group home and each cluster has a team of Counselors, led by a Program Director and an Associate Program Director. They provide supportive counseling, skill development, crisis intervention, case management, and practical assistance.
- Counselors at the residential sites also provide the same services on an Outreach basis for people who live in their own homes or their family homes, or who are homeless.
- All programs have attained evidence-based co-occurring (dual) disorders treatment capability. All programs serve people with co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders as well as people with mental illness only. One team, the Integrated Dual Disorders Treatment (IDDT) team, serves only people with co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders. That team includes a Certified Addiction Counselor.
- We offer Supported Employment services in partnership with the Back To Work program of St. Luke’s House. Supported employment helps people to choose, get and keep competitive employment.
- Renaissance, a psychoeducational day program, nurtures self esteem, develops community living skills, improves interpersonal relationships, and otherwise fosters recovery through a variety of groups, including Illness Management and Recovery (IMR) groups. Renaissance staff, like the residential rehabilitation staffs, also provide Outreach services.
- Threshold Services also is active in advocacy and education on behalf of people with mental illness or dual disorders.
